Redang Island or Pulau Redang in Malaysia is certainly a paradise island which offers crystal clear water for snorkeling & diving, sandy beaches, best resorts and a lot of activities for tourists to get in touch with nature and marine life. One of such place on Redang Island is Marine Park Centre.
Redang Marine Park Centre
The Marine Park Centre is located on one of the islands of Redang called Pulau Pinang. The park comes under Malaysian marine development program and serves the purpose of a research center as well. Marine Park Center is one of the must-visit places when visiting Redang Island because it offers good snorkeling activities on the island.
How to get to the Marine Park Center
The Marine Park Center is easily accessible by boat through all the island resorts. All the islands in Redang offer boat service to Marine Park Center so getting there while staying at another resort is no big issue. The admission fee to the park is RM5 (Malaysian Ringgit) for adult and RM2.50 for children.
Most Pulau Redang Packages include a trip to Marine Park Center and the fee is included in the bookings made. Be sure to keep some cash just in case the resort did not take the entry fee and you have to give it at the entrance of Marine Park Center.
Activities at the Marine Park Center
The park has a wide range of activities from snorkeling to diving in Redang Island and examining the marine life. The marine park has no resorts or villages so it is pretty much just nature and clear water. The sand is amazingly soft and white making it one of the ideal spots to sun bathe.
There are many snorkeling activities offered and snorkels here enjoy a great deal of marine life. There is plenty of coral in the water, which makes it harbor a lot of fishes and other sea animals. The fishes and marine creatures are friendly, so it is a safe spot for children to snorkel as well.
The boats can be rented out at Marine Park Center per day for RM250 and are accompanied by a boat, tour guide who will happily take you around the marine park and show you the places.
Snorkeling at Marine Park
Marine Park offers a lot of snorkeling activities and you are bound to see some interesting sea creatures. Barracudas and eels are pretty common in the shallow water, but you need to be careful. Stingrays can also be seen lurking around the white coral reefs.
There can be seen a shipwreck on the east side of the park which is often explored by snorkelers and proves to be a great adventure. Bring gear if you want to snorkel or it is available for rent from the Marine Park.
Hike at Marine Park
On the right side of the boardwalk there is a trail leading to the top of the mountain that is in Marine Park. The hiking trail leads to the top of a lighthouse which gives an overview of the whole Redang Island.
From the top you can look all around the beautiful park and also see stretches of the island spread out which is indeed a breathtaking view.

Research Center at the Marine Park
Marine Park Centre is the hub of the turtle research center and many baby turtles as well as older ones from the turtle hatchery are put on display. The park has its own turtle hatchery located in the vicinity. The displays are open to the public and tourists can have a closer look at nature.
You can also see the dragon fish in the center. The fish is also called as Oar fish and actually looks like a baby dragon.
Other activities to do at Marine Park
While, Redang Marine Park offers a lot of water fun there are a whole lot of other things you can do there as well. Sun tanning and picnics are very common at Marine Park Centre. Pack a small basket of your favorite snacks and enjoy the day soaking in the sun on the beach. Marine Park is peaceful and quiet which makes it all the more relaxing.
